I am running for Sheriff of Indian River County to implement a vision for policing involving greater collaboration with the community that will reduce crime and enhance our quality of life while protecting constitutional rights. I am also running to provide a higher level of leadership that will transform the organization and elevate public trust.
I have been married to my wife Kim since 1991 and we have two children.
Chief Touchberry has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida and is a graduate of the prestigious Southern Police Institutes’ Administrative Officers Course.
Twelve week (480 hour) residential, accredited college level educational program designed to develop informed, effective, ethically and technically competent law enforcement managers who are capable of assuming positions of leadership in their respective agencies.
Focuses on several major issues affecting the future of criminal justice in Florida, increasing diversity in the workforce, and demonstrating ethical standards for the organization.
Focuses on providing police chiefs with an understanding of many of those critical issues and with interaction with other police chiefs and city officials from whose experience they may learn.
To promote and enhance the highest ethical and professional standards in law enforcement.
Keith Touchberry is proud to currently serve as the Police Chief of the Fellsmere Police Department. Citizens in Fellsmere are guaranteed equal protection under the law and department members will carry out their enforcement responsibilities in a manner that respects these rights and upholds the dignity of all persons.
Keith served as a Vero Beach officer from 1989 to 2013 until he left as a Captain and second in command to become the police chief in Fellsmere. Chief Touchberry has held numerous assignments throughout his career including patrol, K-9, SWAT, criminal investigations, accreditation, training, supervision and management.
Keith served in the armed forces, joining the Army Reserve while still in high school and then ultimately as an active-duty infantryman and light armored vehicle crewman in the Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
Chief Touchberry is the primary ethics instructor for the Florida Institute of Technology undergraduate level criminal justice program
Keith currently serves an an instructor for the Indian River State College criminal justice leader program.
The "CORE" class focuses on Communication, Organization, Roles/Responsibilities and Expectations of an Executive or Administrative Assistant for law enforcement. The "Future Chiefs" class focuses specifically on preparing attendees for a police chiefs position, or a chief executive position in law enforcement and how best to direct your professional development to reach this leadership position.
